Clergy, Beto to Lead ‘Selma’-Style Voting Rights March in Texas

Former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke, religious leaders, and racial-equality activists will lead a 27-mile “Selma-to-Montgomery style” voting rights march through Texas, organizers announced Wednesday.

The four-day march is to begin July 27 in Georgetown, Texas, and end in a voting rights rally July 30 in Austin.

That effort comes as a group of Democrats has refused to show up for sessions of the state House, instead remaining in Washington, D.C. to lobby for passage of a federal voting rights law. By staying out of Texas, those in the state House can’t get the quorum needed to vote on election ...
