Accellion Settlement Approval Sought for $8.1 Million Over Hack

Plaintiffs argue an $8.1 million settlement with file-sharing company Accellion Inc. pending in California federal court should be approved because the deal was struck after “arduous, arms-length” negotiations.

The deal, on behalf of approximately 9.2 million class members, would resolve claims that the company violated the California Consumer Privacy Act, Washington Consumer Protection Act, and other laws by failing to guard itself from a data breach, according to the motion for preliminary approval filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

Attorneys representing Accellion didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
